Holiday Learning Toy Drives
Approximately 1,000 volunteers give their time and talent to Navidad annually. We have opportunities ALL year long, both for large corporate employee groups or individuals that have a few hours to spare.
The most popular way to volunteer is between Thanksgiving and Christmas, working in our toy warehouse, sorting and labeling toys for families. Volunteers individually select toys for each child based on the child’s age; it is a fun way to “shop” for those who normally do without. Volunteers then label and secure the gift bag for each family and they are stored for pick-up by agency on pallets.
Fall into Reading Project: Sept., Oct. & November
Fall into Reading Bulk School Donations: Help Navidad host the annual Fall into Reading awards where local school principals receive bulk donations for creating classroom reading corners or mobile book libraries. Special event to be announced in mid-November but need volunteers to sort and package books in advance. Need approx. 20 volunteers during the evening.
Fall into Reading Family Literacy Nights: Navidad helps selected agencies to host a fun-filled evening event encouraging reading for the whole family. Board games may be played and children enjoy carnival like games with literacy themes and book prizes. Need approx. 20 volunteers per site in the evening.
Fall into Reading Book Blasts: At selected schools, Navidad will host book give-aways to specific pre-determined classrooms such as the entire third grade and allow students to select books of their choice to own and take home. May include assembly with motivational speaker or special book reading event, if author driven, Navidad will host autographing party. Need approx. 10 volunteers per site event (weekday afternoons).
